U-Part Wigs Are In

A u-part wig is a wig with a u-shaped opening that allows you to leave out a part of your natural hair to blend with the wig. You can purchase them online or you can make one yourself. U-part wigs are easy to use besides having that transitional visual quality that makes them appear so natural, you can attach on with hair combs, hair clips or sew it on to your weaved in hair. This is why U-part wigs are so popular for wig users: they are convenient to use and versatile, and their use and maintenance are convenient.

How To Make A U-Part Wig (Sew-In Method)

First things first gather all materials you will need to make the U-part wig. Choose what braid pattern you would like to use, the beehive method works extremely well but when braiding hair, remember to leave out two anchor braids to sew the completed wig on. You also want to make sure to leave out a section of hair where you will like your part to be, whether that is a middle part or side part. Keep in mind to leave out any section of hair that you feel you need out, this can be your edges and the nape of your hair so you are able to put your hair in a ponytail.

Prepare at least 3 needles for sewing prior to sewing the wefted hair on your cap. This will allow you to continuously sew instead of stopping and re-threading that same needle when the thread is finished. Outline the wig by using a white eyeliner to draw a “U” at the very top of the cap. This will provide you with guidance to not sew outside of the boundaries of the white line. Take the longest bundle of your HAIRFLEEK Hair Extensions, unravel the hair. Take one threaded curved needle and push the needle through the first weft of the hair.  Pull the needle through the weft ensuring that the first weft is securely attached to the thread. Place the weft against the cap and sew through the cap and pull through. At this point, you will start sewing under your weft.

Continue to push and pull back and forth under the weft, then through the cap. Additionally, as you reach the edge of the cap, fold the track over and start sewing in the opposite direction. Repeat this process until the entire bundle of hair is finished. You will continue this sewing process until your cap is sewn to the very top of the mannequin head leaving out the U-shape area of the wig.

Begin to cut any extra hair you don’t need off the wig unit. Proceed to make a knot around the end of the weft. While leaving a space around the stitches, cut off the remainder of the cap inside the “U”. It is optional to sew wig clips onto your wig unit—this allows you the convenience of just placing the wig on your head and clip it down as oppose to sewing it down on your head. If opting to sew it down, just simply sew the wig down around your perimeter anchor braids. Leave out your natural hair that comes through the “U” this gives the illusion that the wig is your hair. Style as desired and you’re finished!
